We work at the intersection of fundamental physics and nanoscale energy conversion in materials especially nano/micro-structures and complex materials from basic thermal properties to energy harvest application, including anomalous thermal conduction, thermoelectricity and phononics. We expertise in measuring thermal properties of anything which is small. Our recent interests focus on:
1. anomalous thermal conduction in low dimensional systems, testing the validation of Fourier's law in 1D and 2D systems
2. novel nanomaterials, such as graphene, nanotube, nanowire, MoS2, polymer etc.
3. thermal energy harvest, e.g. thermoelectricity in nanomaterials and man-made nano-heterostructrues
4. utilize phonons as information carriers (phononics), i.e. thermal rectifier, thermal diode, thermal transistor and thermal memory.
5. fundamental physics behind the interfacial thermal conduction, e.g. electron-electron coupling, electron-phonon coupling and phonon-phonon coupling in metal-insulator interface
We carry out novel experiments integrated by nanofabrication and extreme condition measurements, e.g. electron-beam lithograghy and optical lithography, atomic force microscope and scanning thermal microscope, low temperature and high magnetic field measurements, nano/micro manipulation etc.
